How it works

Pick your target level and timeline, then rate the same five dimensions used by the Interview Readiness Score. The tool allocates your available weeks across those five dimensions in proportion to leverage — each dimension's weight at your target level multiplied by how much room your self-rating leaves for improvement — so the plan spends the most time exactly where the most overall improvement is available, rather than splitting time evenly or just chasing your single lowest number.

Why not just split the weeks evenly?

An even split ignores the fact that dimensions do not matter equally at every level. Spending two of eight weeks on system design when you are preparing for an SDE 1 loop (where system design is roughly 5% of the weight) is close to wasted time relative to spending those same two weeks tightening DSA pattern recognition, which carries roughly 40% of the weight at that level. The reverse mistake — an even split that under-invests in system design for a Staff-level plan — is just as common and just as costly, which is why this tool exists instead of a generic checklist.

Frequently asked questions

How does the tool decide what to put first in the plan?
Each dimension's priority is its weight at your target level multiplied by how much room you rated yourself to grow — not just your lowest score. A dimension you rated low but that barely matters at your level (DSA at Staff Engineer, for instance) gets a small slice of the plan; a dimension that matters a lot and where you rated yourself low gets the largest slice.
What if I do not know exactly how many weeks I have?
Pick your best estimate — the plan's proportions (which dimension gets more time relative to the others) do not change much across a reasonable range of timelines; only the absolute number of weeks per block does. If your actual date moves, re-run the tool with the new number.
Is this plan personalized to my actual skills, or just my self-rating?
Just your self-rating — this tool has no account, no history, and computes everything from five numbers you enter and public level data, entirely in your browser. A free account replaces the self-rating with real evidence from actual timed practice attempts, and adapts the plan automatically as that evidence accumulates, rather than requiring you to re-run a static tool.
