Why Greenhouse is the deepest apply path in the catalog

Greenhouse is different from the other ATS platforms we track for one concrete reason: it publishes a real, documented Job Board API — the same interface Greenhouse customers use internally to pull their own listings. That is what makes a genuinely programmatic (not scraped, not screen-scraped) submit path even possible, and it is why Greenhouse gets the most built-out treatment on this site. Lever, Ashby, and Workday don't expose an equivalent public endpoint, so for those three the extension is doing all the work — see ATS job search for how the four compare.

That still doesn't mean spraying an API key at every posting. Discovery finds the roles, Career Memory decides if they're worth pursuing, and the API path itself is gated off by default — see Submit stays on you below for exactly how.

How discovery actually works

Confirm Career Memory, and up to three job searches can start automatically from your tracks. Discovery walks a curated directory of public Greenhouse boards — company by company, using the same Job Board API endpoint those companies expose — and folds every listing into one normalized catalog alongside Lever, Ashby, and Workday postings.

A listing that hasn't been re-seen in 14 days quietly drops out of Recommended and daily matches — the assumption is that a role gone quiet is probably filled, not that it's still open forever. If the discovery worker is down or a board isn't seeded yet, the UI says so; it does not fabricate Greenhouse jobs to fill a blank state.

Found a Greenhouse posting yourself, outside of discovery? Open it with the Chrome extension and it ingests into the same catalog — same score, same Career Ticket, same save/skip path a discovered role gets.

Match before you apply

A Greenhouse listing that lands in Recommended carries dimension scores, a WHY, and the specific JD requirement phrases you have not confirmed skills against yet — not a bare match percentage. That is what turns a listing into a decision: pursue, save, or skip, and it is the same save / not interested / already applied / open-and-prefill flow every source in the catalog gets — see how the recommended feed works for the full loop.

What the extension does on greenhouse.io

Open a Greenhouse job or apply form. The side panel can detect the host, pull the posting, show strengths and gaps against Career Memory, and prefill answers you have already verified — phone, work authorization, links, prior screening answers.

Prefill is gated on a short approval window so a stale tab cannot silently fill a form. Duplicate checks can warn before you apply twice to the same role. The extension does not click Submit. You do.

Submit stays on you

Assisted Auto Apply can prepare a Career Ticket from a Greenhouse match and wait in Action Required. You review gaps, confirm answers, and approve. Status becomes Applied only after a confirmed submission you authorized — or after you answer “Did you apply?” when detection is only medium or low confidence.

A live POST to Greenhouse’s public Job Board API exists as an opt-in path. It is off by default, dry-run by default, requires explicit per-application approval, and writes an audit row. Lever, Ashby, Workday, and LinkedIn stay extension-assisted or manual. Silent auto-submit is not a feature.

What this is not

• Not a shadow apply form — you still complete Greenhouse's own
• Not Indeed or Glassdoor with a Greenhouse label stuck on top
• Not a guarantee every listing is still open — a stale posting is filtered out, not preserved forever
